Description: Read Conmigo, a children’s outreach program developed and sponsored by Infinity Auto Insurance, was converting their existing printed bilingual-reading books into downloadable e-books. To facilitate the creation of a new digital library, the existing Read Conmigo website needed to be completely rebuilt to focus on a member’s only library, promoting local in-person events, and offering free resources for teachers, parents, and children – in both English and Spanish.
I worked with the lead designer to create visual assets, including background elements, buttons, and icons, and then wrote the responsive HTML and CSS for the entire site based on their home-page design.
PHP scripting was used to internationalize (i18n) the website for English and Spanish presentations, and to build some of the free downloads and games, like the dynamic PDF coloring page builder. PHP scripting also connected to a MySQL database which allowed admins the ability to update the library with new e-books through a new CMS, as well as power membership interactions.
After conducting research on user profiles, I decided to offer three methods of registration: standard email as username and password, Facebook single-sign-on (using Facebook’s JavaScript SDK), and text to register (using Twilio’s PHP API) for parents attending in-person Read Conmigo events.
The entire site was delivered on-schedule, and so well received by the Read Conmigo staff, and long-time fans alike, that I was asked to redesign the van wraps for the Read Conmigo fleet to match!
